Question:
I can see my Vadim support DVD has Prime95 but it doesn’t seem to run. Am I doing something wrong? (17/06/2007)
Answer:
Here we have full instructions on how to test your CPU with prime95 from our Support CD
Go to:
My computer->right click the CD drive with the Vadim support disc in->click Explore->double click the SupportCD folder->double click the App folder->double click the Prime95 folder.
Once you are here you need to drag and drop the Prime95 folders to your desktop. For a single core CPU you will need the older labeled ‘core0’. If you have a dual core CPU you will need the folders labeled ‘core0’ and ‘core1’and if you have a quad core CPU you will all the folders (cores 0-3). Once you have the folders you need on your desktop close all open folders and programs. You should now have the Prim95 folders you need on the desktop and all other folders and applications closed. Open the Prime folders you now have on your desktop. Once they are all open double click the red icon in each one. Close each folder once you have double clicked each red icon to make sure you do not click the same red icon twice.
You should now have as many instances of Prime95 open as you have cores in your CPU and nothing else. No other folders or applications open.
In Prime95, go to options->torture test->select custom. You will need to change the amount of 'memory to use in MB' field. what you enter in this feild is determined by three things
1) how much memory you have in your PC
2) Which version of Windows you are using.
3) How many cores your CPU has.
To work out the value you need to enter in this field is simple.
**Memory you have in MB subtract 500 (or) 1000 (depending which OS you are running) devided by the number of cores in your CPU
Work out your total in megabytes (MB), so 2Gb = 2000Mb 8Gb = 8000 etc. Take this number and subtract 500 if you have Windows XP or 1000 if you have Vista. with your new number, divide the memory you have left equally between that amount of cores you have.
For example:
Our example PC has 4Gb of memory, a dual core processor (E6320 for example) and is running Windows Vista.
4Gb of memory = 4000Mb of memory. Subtract 1000 for Vista leaves us with 3000Mb of memory. We have a dual core CPU so we put in this field 1500.
Next, repeat the process for the other Window(s) you have open, clicking ok when have done each one.
Prime95 takes 24 hours to pass a full cycle. Normally, if you are going to see an error, you will see it within the first hour but to make absolutely sure your overclocking is stable, run it for a full 24 hour cycle.
