Question:
My system built on Tyan s2895 crashed and my hard drive wont be recognised even in BIOS after that. The system was doing intense calculations and installing security updates at the same time from Microsoft. Has this killed the board or the Hard drive? (21/06/2006)

Answer:

Neither. Probably the program that was working wasnt very compatible with windows update that resulted in an abnormal instruction to the hardware (ACPI specifically) that caused the HD to be invisible by the system and gives the error - 'no operating system found'

  1. To rectify the problem, please unplug the system from the mains for 1 minutes
  2. Restart and go into BIOS>BOOT>Boot device priority
  3. You will see the HD on the bottom of the screen. please navigate to it using the arrow down key and press X to enable it as a bootable device.
  4. Press F10 and Enter
  5. Your system will be operational again.
