Question:
I would like to buy a PC that will allow me to play games on my main monitor and let my wife watch an AVI on the TV that will be connected to the PC. Is that possible at all? (25/04/2006)

Answer:

It is not the easiest task, but it is possible. You will need a PC with 2 sound cards (the onboard one will do as primary) and any Nvidia dual monitor graphics card.

You will need to connect the primary sound output to the TV and the second sound card to the headphones where you will need the game to play.
Once everything is connected, please follow the below instructions:
- If you've just connected the TV for the first time, please restart the PC.
- Make sure no other applications are running.
- Right mouse click on the desktop and select 'Nvidia Display>the monitor'
- Go to Nview Display Settings and from the 'nView Display Mode' options select 'DualView'. Click OK
- Ensure that the primary monitor resolution is the same as the resolution of the game you will be playing
- Start the movie you wish to watch on the TV (preferably with BS Player)
- Providing that everything is ok with the sound, drag the movie window as far as possible to the right and you will see the movie on the TV, but not in full screen
- Double click on the movie window so you watch it full screen on the TV.
- Now that the movie is playing with sound on TV, its time for the game...
- Next go to the 'Control Pannel > Sounds and Audio Devices'
- Select the Audio tab and from the default devices select the card where the headphones are connected. If you have USB headphones, then there is no need for the second sound card, so select them instead.
- Now launch the game and enjoy :)
