We take a closer look at the headset from the much-hyped Creative Fatal1ty range
Real-life Testing
As soon as I’d got the mic volume right, I wanted to see how the headset fared in real life use.
I started off gently by using the Voice Clip function on MSN Messenger and recording various messages to a friend.
The microphone was impressively clear, and after the initial “eurgh is that how my voice sounds?” moment, I was able to appreciate the quality and clarity that the microphone was providing me, even when whispering or talking softly.
However, this headset isn’t called the Creative Fatal1ty MSN Messenger Voice Clip Headset now is it? Let’s see how these headphones perform in-game.
I loaded up F.E.A.R and the rumble of the menu’s sound effects resonating in my ears was already setting the adrenaline pumping. This is exactly what I was looking for in a gaming headset.
The crispness and clarity of the sound was remarkable, with the volume level just right, this headset was able to aid in delivering a new level of immersive gameplay.
The bass response was fantastic during explosions and whilst throwing grenade after grenade at oil drums, the headphones were showing no signs of overloading or peaking whatsoever.
The headphones were also able to pick up subtle sounds such as footsteps and weapons being reloaded, which is something other generic brand headsets were not providing.
This helped a lot in terms of in-game reflexes and preparing you for what’s coming your way.
