So now we know that the system is stable we can begin to grade it performance using a variety of benchmarking tools. To fully test this system we used a variety of benchmarking software such as Science Mark, Cinebench, 3D Mark and Sandra. The test results are as follows:

Blue Bars - Intel E6700 overclocked to 3.4
Red Bars - dual opterons @ 2.0Ghz each

When running benchmarking using Sciencemark it showed that the single Conroe completely outperforms the 2 x AMD Opteron 246 processors! The Opteron series of processors are very good server and workstation performers and the Conroe has completely out shined them.

Results of the Cinebench test on the Conroe with the Nvidia 7950Gx2 graphics card.

Results of the Cinebench test on an AMD FX-60 with an Nvidia a 7900GTX graphics card.

The above results show how our Conroe system faired up against a previous machine running an AMD FX-60 processor with a 7900GTX card. As the results clearly show the Conroe out performs the FX-60 with ease. The graphics performance is not the same story however. The system with the 7950GX2 card did out perform the system running the 7900GTX on the C4D Shading and OpenGL SW-L tests, however the 7900GTX seemed to perform better that the 7950GX2 in the OpenGL HW-L tests. This would not be a noticeable difference in a real life scenario however it still goes to show that the 7950GX2 still needs to have some kinks ironed out of it (this may come in time with updated drivers).

When running benchmarks on the graphics card we found that we got an impressive 17117 3D marks. This is a challenge to achieve with two 7900GTX cards running in SLI mode even with an AMD FX62. The most we could achieve with an overclocked FX62 was about 16000 3dmark05 points. However the fun doesnt stop here, we've run in the same setup 2 x ATI X1900 cards in crossfire mode. What we got was insane! with the overclocked GPUs to 690 and Memory to 790 we got over 20000 3dmark05 points! We will show the results in our next article where we show the Intel Extreme X6800 overclcoked to 3.6 and the ATI cards that together just blow anything else on the market!

The Conroe's CPU Multimedia benchmarks in Sandra. This test shows that the Conroe is far superior to anything else it is up against. The closest processor to the Conroe is the Intel Pentium 4 extreme edition running at 3.46Ghz and the AMD FX60. This does however demonstrate how close the competition between AMD and Intel is as reference processors 1 and 2 are so close.

The Conroe's CPU Arithmetic benchmarks in Sandra. This test shows just how good the Conroe is at running through calculations. It has performed with a better overall result than the reference processors. Even though the Intel Pentium 4 extreme edition 955 running at 3.46GHz has a better in the Whetstone benchmark as a whole the overall combined results still puts the Conroe as the better processor.
