What's your view on SSDs?

Unfortunately as from 07/07/08 V-Solutions LTD has ceased trading.
There has been a lot of talk about the Western Digital Raptors. As a result we decided that we would put them to test and see if they lived up to their reputation. Read on to find out!

And now the front views:

As you can see, we've added some Green to the ATI's configuration and some Red/orange to the Nvidia configuration. Not their favourite colours, but we do it as we wish - at least here nobody can complain!

Ok, now we finally know the important stuff in order to test out the might of the Western Digital Raptors. But how is it tested tough? There are many different ways on testing the data read/write speed, and many probably will argue - the best way to test it is to run realtime applications and count the time. That is a very good way of doing it, but we omit one important factor by doing that - if the HD is not be defragmented in the same way as others, results will be distorted. To keep the things simple, once the operating system was installed we run a nice little program called Sandra 2007. Sandra is a program that can test many of the important aspects of a system and compare them to other equivalents by rival manufacturers. It can also be an effective tool in testing hardware for problems. In this case we will use it to test for the transfer rate of the Raptors in RAID 0.
