Some might think that we are ATI fanboys, but were just here to give our non biased views!
Last year Nvidia was on top from almost start to ... finish... November? December?

  • The start of it all was when SLI was 'working' back in January 2005
  • Then in summer everyone went mad about the 7800 GTX SLI, which is still very popular.
  • In December 2005 we had, yet again, another beast from Nvidia - the 7800 GTX 512. At its so unavailable it costs you an arm and a leg!

But this isn't the point of this article. The point is that today we were finally able to beat 15000 in 3dmark 05 by overclocking ATI X1900's in Crossfire mode.
The setup was as 'usual' - Liquocool Antarctic D in a TJ07 case with 2 dual 120mm rads all being pumped round by a D5. Will go into more detail at the end of this article. For now, here are the results:

ATI X1800XT x2 4800 @ 2592, x1800xt @ 698/1584 9428
ATI X1900XTX X2 FX60 @ 2840, X1900XTX @ 700/1600 12671
Nvidia 7800GTX256 SLI FX57 @ 3065, 2 7800GTX @ 526/1305 13454
ATI X1800 Crossfire x2 FX60 @ 2845, 2 x1800xt @ 698/1584 14716
Nvidia 7800GTX512 SLI x2 4800 @ 2724, 2 7800GTX512 @ 600/1800 14771
ATI X1900 Crossfire X2 FX60 @ 2840, X1900XTX @ 700/1600 15310

It wasn't possible to publish the results for the ATI X1800XT at the time as the FX60 CPU was recongised as an unknown CPU type by the motherboard, but here is the screenshot of the Futuremark ORB page with the top 3 setups - X1800 Crossfire, 7800GTX512 SLI and the X1900 Crossifre.

As promissed, here are the pictures of the final revision of the Liquocool Antarctic setup in the Silverstone TJ07 case:

The system not only performs as good as it looks, but it is as quiet as you can get thanks to the selection of the components below:
