In order to give you as complete a picture, not only of the Computer itself, but also of the service you can expect from the people behind it; I have left this Report, until I have had one whole year's experience with it.
The Computer.
This is a bespoke computer, put together to meet my intended use, which Vadim call a "Custom" computer. I have two main uses for a computer: Desktop Publishing, and Video Editing. Both, the desktop publishing's Portfolio, and sucking-in a video from a camera, require huge amounts of hard-disc and memory capacity. To suck-in a completed video takes about ten minutes or so, depending on its length. There was a further requirement, that the "signal to noise ratio" of the Sound Card, be of the highest available. This card is intended for music use.
For many years, I have been screaming at my computers, because of the incessant automatic up-dating of the various programmes, preventing me using the computer for serious work. Now, no longer is that the situation. This computer has "Duel-Core", and enables me to do serious work on the computer, without hindrance from other "background" programmes.
In the past, I have lost everything on the computer, so, to prevent complete loss of data on this new computer, I requested RAID 1, but due to a misunderstanding, RAID 0 was provided. True, data can still be recovered using RAID 0, but it is a difficult task, and if I were to change this RAID 0 to RAID 1, I would lose everything; so I have been obliged to automatically backup of all my data: a thing I should always have done. I not only backup to the spare "Storage" drive on the computer, but also to two external USB Zip drives.
This computer is the fastest I have ever used, with its four-gigabytes of memory, it handle's large files with ease. Although the computer largely uses the same components as a Gaming Computer, I have no need of games, so I am unable to comment on that application.
The metal case of this computer is the finest I have ever seen. It has been made with high precision, and all of the covers can be removed and assembled in a few seconds; with great ease. Despite it having six or more cooling fans and three hard-discs within, it is remarkably quiet in normal operation.
The care with which this computer has been constructed is breathtaking. The myriad of cables within, are gathered into sheathed cable-forms, and extremely painstakingly routed and tied-down throughout the computer. I have only previously seen this standard of workmanship in products of the prestige of the QUAD amplifier.
Surely there must be a downside? No! There is not! It so happens, to my dismay, that I did have a power-unit failure. On contacting them, they collected and repaired the computer, and I was using it again within a few days. There was no hassle what-so-ever.
The People of Vadim.
Have you ever tried to order a computer from one of those large organisations, where one is held on the telephone, listening to canned music, only to be told to dial a different number; and then find you are talking to an ignorant person? That will not happen at Vadim. There, you will always be talking to the people that are going to make the computer for you. They are keen to understand your requirements, and then suggest a suitable specification. This Specification is complete with the Model Numbers of the components that they think would be best for your application. One can even access the individual specifications of each of the proposed components, so one can see exactly what is being suggested. One is able to discuss the specification, either online, or telephone; and it seems there is no limit to the depth of technical probing that they will assist one with. All of the personnel there seem to have an overwhelming desire to ensure a satisfactory outcome. The person that made the computer, is not ashamed to place his name, moulded in a stylish medallion, on the side of the computer.
In the past, since 1983, I have bought three other computers, but none of those experiences can match-up to the satisfaction I have gained from these people at Vadim. I am completely satisfied with this computer, and all aspects of the people and services of Vadim. Without their very helpful expertise, I could never have obtained such an excellent computer. If I should need another, it is from Vadim that I would buy.
